This editorial offers an alternative perspective on elections with a low voter turnout. Rather than assert that only 20% of the voters voted, I suggest that all voters vote in every election. Deciding not to go to the poll is fundamentally offering a proxy vote to those who do.

The editorial also explores the perils of voter apathy, and an uninformed electorate.

Sarasota County seems to be an incubator for arguments – we argue about everything, even the little things. This editorial explores the possibility that Sarasotans argue because they are passionate about their community and have so much to loose, that public discourse is inevitable and maybe even be constructive.
